Frequently Asked Questions:
Question: Should I clean my JewelStik?
Answer: Yes. When you sharpen your knife with the JewelStik a small amount of metal remains from your knife. Be sure to wash your knife blade before cutting and rinse off your JewelStik now and then. One thing that works really well is cleaning it with a light-weight oil.
Question: How long will the diamond surface last on my JewelStik?
Answer: If the JewelStik is being used in a family kitchen, used once or twice a week, the JewelStik should outlive any knife. If the JewelStik is being used by a Chef or Butcher and sharpening use is several times a day, the JewelStik will last the better part of five years or so.
Question: Why do you offer so many different sizes?
Answer: There are different sizes for different needs. Your sharpener should be at least the length of your blade. The 10" or 12" sharpeners are great for culinary uses. The 5" sharpeners are useful for your sporting goods needs. The FlipStik is great for hunting, fishing or boating. It's great to cap off and close to a compact size.
"Sharpening with Perfection" Diamond is the allotrope of carbon where the carbon atoms are arranged in isometric-hex octahedral crystal lattice. Its hardness and high dispersion of light make it useful for industrial applications and jewelry. It is the hardest known natural material. Diamonds are recognized as a material with outstanding physical qualities; they make excellent abrasives because they can be scratched only by other diamonds.
The JewelStik Stubby 5" Sharpening stone features a 5" blade with a 3/4" width, giving greater surface area when sharpening. The Jewelstik kitchen gem was once available only to professional chefs. The JewelStik diamond sharpener is lightweight, well balanced and easy to use.
Over fifty years ago, the original oval design and diamond coating of knife sharpeners was introduced to the professional trade by Harlan D. Hewlett, founder of Hewlett Manufacturing. The business evolved until JewelStik Diamond Sharpeners dominated the world market. Establishing their roots as an OEM manufacturer, JewelStik supplied diamond sharpeners to the world’s finest cutlery companies. Now, consumers are desperately seeking out the name JewelStik for their home kitchens.
Hewlett Manufacturing is the originator and world leader in the art of diamond coating and knife sharpening. Proudly made in America, JewelStik is by no means a ‘me-too’ product. Others have tried to copy, reproduce and imitate; none have come close. Lightweight and easy to use, these diamond sharpeners give a quick, razor-sharp edge every time. Their 100% diamond coating is aggressive enough to provide a new edge to a dull surface on any hard steel; yet will not harm your expensive cutlery.
JewelStik’s standard oval sharpeners are available in 5-inch, 10-inch and 12-inch lengths; in a professional width of 3/4-inch or a consumer width of 1/2-inch. All are electroplated industrial monocrystalline diamonds, meaning they are one headed - not multi-headed - which makes for a perfectly even surface. No gaps or spaces and certainly no raised bumps. When you use an industrial diamond that is polycrystalline, your surface is sporadic and not smooth and even. This certainly affects the edge you achieve on your knife blade.
